My name is Jocelyn Starling and I hoping to be a first grade teacher one day. I am taking this class so that I can learn about technology that might help me in my future career. I am hoping to learn about resources that will make my job easier as well as resources that will make my futures lessons more interactive and engaging. I am going to save the resources I like to use in my future classroom.
In high school I volunteered at an elementary school and helped with aftercare and summer camps. During one of the summer camps, I used google slides to teach the kids about the solar system. This was very fun and engaging but I'm sure there are better programs out there for this purpose. I also used Canva to create attendance sheets for my aftercare kids. This was much more fun than the typical attendance sheets and it made it much more organized for the office.
My existing personal learning networks include teachers, friends, family, TikTok, ChatGBT, and Pinterest. I love to learn about education and the best ways to make a difference in kids lives and I use these resources to acquire that knowledge. The teachers I have had in the past have taught me most of what I know today and I still use that knowledge to this day. My friends and family have had very different experiences in their life and I am able to learn from those experiences and their advice. TikTok and ChatGBT are ways for me to obtain information very quickly. I used Pinterest for creative inspiration which comes in handy often with teaching.
I think it's so cool that you want to teach 1st grade! I'm also planning on going into elementary ed, I'm just not sure what grade I want to teach yet. I'm also hopeful that this class will give me more resources for when I am a teacher. My PLN looks very similar to yours. TikTok and Pinterest are such great tools for creative inspiration for lessons or crafts. I love how your past teachers have influenced you so much, that's amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love using Canva as well to make thing look less boring as well as overall it being more user-friendly to customize and therefore organize whatever I am creating to my needs. Word processors can typically also get the job done, but it always looks plain.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool that you already have experience with kids! I like that you mention your past teachers as part of your PLN--I think most of us in this stage don't have many friends or resources in the education field, but the first people who inspired us to be educators are the teachers we had as kids. I know that most of my philosophy on teaching is cobbled together from my best memories of school.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that you already have experience working with technology in a real-world classroom context. I'm sure it will be a big help as technology become a bigger part of elementary ed in the future!!
