Blog Post #4
Being a digital native, I have been on social media since a young age. I used to use platforms like TikTok and Instagram to see what my friends were up to and I used to use Pinterest for recipe ideas. While this kind of social media use is always a nice break, social media can be used for so many great things. As I have gotten older I have started to use these platforms for my future career as a teacher. There are always such great ideas, crafts, and hacks that I see on social media that I normally save for the future. It might be a little early to start saving these kinds of post, but in the future it will be very helpful.
I am very grateful to have gone to a digitally rich school growing up. At my first school, we each had a Chromebook from 4th grade to 8th grade and a technology class which taught us how to use our devices. In high school, I was also given a Chromebook. I didn't use the Chromebook very often, but I wish I had because I would have been even more prepared for college and the real world. To this day, I still use a lot of the skills that I learned from a very young age in that technology class. I believe that having access to technology at a young age is what makes me so comfortable with using technology and prepared me for college.
Collaborative learning and social annotation are great learning strategies that can increase critical thinking and engagement. Padlet is a program that I used very often in high school and I loved it. I feel like it allowed me to share my ideas, get feedback on my ideas, and to get inspiration from other people's ideas. Padlet is a program that I definitely would like to use in my future classroom because of the benefits I mentioned above. A lesson that I could use in the future is to have students go on a Padlet and say their favorite animal and a fun fact about that animal. By using collaborative learning, the kids can learn about a bunch of different animals and practice their reading comprehension.
