Blog Post #5
This class is the first time that I have blogged or even read a blog. However, it has been very nice to express my ideas as well as read other people's ideas on the same topic. Reading other people's blogs has opened my eyes to many new ideas and perspectives. I have learned that blogging is definitely an upkeep, and I need to be consistent with it.
Ever since artificial intelligence became more developed, education has been changed drastically. AI was once a helpful tool and can still be used in this way, but most of the time it is not. K-12 aged kids are in a very crucial point of development and learning. The kids in the new generation have grown up with the temptation of using AI and this temptation can prevent them from learning basic skills and knowledge in this important time of their lives if they constantly take the short cut in education. I think AI can be a good tool in K-12 education if it is used appropriately.
I use generative AI as a helpful tool often. When I used it to create a lesson plan the first question I asked was "create a lesson plan about the states of matter for a 4th grade science class". It gave me an amazing lesson plan with all the necessary components, however, I wanted something more interactive to get the students engaged in the lesson. The next thing I asked was "add an experiment" and then "simplify this experiment and add it to the lesson plan above", which gave me the perfect lesson plan. If I were to do this again I would be more specific and ask for an interactive experiment in the initial lesson plan.
After this assignment, I will definitely be using generative AI to help me with my lesson plans. It comes up with great ideas that I normally would not have thought of. It even includes all of the learning objectives and other important details that are necessary for a good lesson plan. I might also use AI to come up with creative ideas or hacks to use in my classrooms.
