For this assignment I analyzed my high school's website. The website is very organized and offers a lot of very helpful information about the school. The website has everything from upcoming dates, to school policies, to study materials. The only thing that I could find that had anything to do with teachers was the staff directory. However, all that is in the directory is a picture of each staff member and their email. This is very helpful for students and parents who might need to get in contact with a staff member. https://www.pcsb.org/stpete-hs I currently use google calendar to keep track of all of my assignments and due dates. I will continue to use this as a teacher to stay organized and on top of all of my important dates. I also would like to have a digital newsletter or blog where parents can stay on track with what we are doing as a class. And lastly, I will definitely be using Canva to design and decorate my classroom. I have learned about all of these technologies in th...

This class is the first time that I have blogged or even read a blog. However, it has been very nice to express my ideas as well as read other people's ideas on the same topic. Reading other people's blogs has opened my eyes to many new ideas and perspectives. I have learned that blogging is definitely an upkeep, and I need to be consistent with it.  Ever since artificial intelligence became more developed, education has been changed drastically. AI was once a helpful tool and can still be used in this way, but most of the time it is not. K-12 aged kids are in a very crucial point of development and learning. The kids in the new generation have grown up with the temptation of using AI and this temptation can prevent them from learning basic skills and knowledge in this important time of their lives if they constantly take the short cut in education. I think AI can be a good tool in K-12 education if it is used appropriately. I use generative AI as a helpful tool often. When I u...

Being a digital native, I have been on social media since a young age. I used to use platforms like TikTok and Instagram to see what my friends were up to and I used to use Pinterest for recipe ideas. While this kind of social media use is always a nice break, social media can be used for so many great things. As I have gotten older I have started to use these platforms for my future career as a teacher. There are always such great ideas, crafts, and hacks that I see on social media that I normally save for the future. It might be a little early to start saving these kinds of post, but in the future it will be very helpful. I am very grateful to have gone to a digitally rich school growing up. At my first school, we each had a Chromebook from 4th grade to 8th grade and a technology class which taught us how to use our devices. In high school, I was also given a Chromebook. I didn't use the Chromebook very often, but I wish I had because I would have been even more prepared for coll...

This lesson taught me that copyright and fair use are much more important that I had previously realized. I learned how these concerns can sometimes be easily overlooked but this does not mean that they should be. When I become a teacher I will make sure to that the content that I am using is appropriately credited. I will also make sure that my students follow these same protocols. If I ever teach older kids I will make sure to give them a lesson about copy right and fair use so that they are educated on the topic and make good decisions online.  As someone who is currently a student, someone who is constantly surrounded by other students, and someone who is studying to be an educator I am very aware that academic dishonestly is a major concern in the education environment. Academic dishonesty has always been an issue but the problem only gets worse as more technology gets developed, especially AI. AI is a very powerful tool when used appropriately, however, it is not always ...

I have not had a ton of experience using Microsoft Word. In middle school, we were required to use google docs and so that is what I became accustomed to. In high school, we were allowed to choose whatever software we wanted. I continued to use google docs because that is what I was used to. I have only used Microsoft Word a handful of times but I am excited to learn how to use it properly through this course.  I think being a learner is the most important standard as an educator. Each year you are given a group of children with unique personalities, experiences, and learning preferences. As educators we must acknowledge each of these differences, learn from them, and adapt to them. It is important that the kids are learning from us but it is equally as important that we are learning from the kids as well because that is what turns a good teacher into a great teacher. The ISTE website opened my eyes to the idea that teachers can be constantly learning from the internet as well whic...

My name is Jocelyn Starling and I hoping to be a first grade teacher one day. I am taking this class so that I can learn about technology that might help me in my future career. I am hoping to learn about resources that will make my job easier as well as resources that will make my futures lessons more interactive and engaging. I am going to save the resources I like to use in my future classroom.      In high school I volunteered at an elementary school and helped with aftercare and summer camps. During one of the summer camps, I used google slides to teach the kids about the solar system. This was very fun and engaging but I'm sure there are better programs out there for this purpose. I also used Canva to create attendance sheets for my aftercare kids. This was much more fun than the typical attendance sheets and it made it much more organized for the office.      My existing personal learning networks include teachers, friends, family...
